The Raml suburbs

1850–1952

Sidi Gaber’s station was built in 1854 and the Antoniadis Gardens laid out in 1860, and under Muhammad Ali’s dynasty the elite vied to build their palaces in Zizinia.

Museums · Raml IRoyal Jewelry Museum1919, a museum since 1986The palace of Princess Fatma al-Zahra’ in Gleem, begun in 1919 and made a museum by presidential decree in 1986; it holds some 11,500 pieces that belonged to Muhammad Ali’s family.

The Sidi Gaber Mosque was rebuilt after 1955, Fatma al-Zahra’s palace became the Royal Jewelry Museum in 1986, and the Antoniadis Palace was given to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in 2004.
